Definition

NHS Reference Costs are collected annually from NHS trusts and used as unit costs in health economic models. They are presented by Healthcare Resource Group (HRG) codes and cover inpatient, outpatient, A&E, and other activity types. Reference Costs are the standard source for hospital resource costs in NICE technology appraisal submissions.
