NICE Technology Appraisal
A formal assessment by NICE of the clinical and cost-effectiveness of a health technology for use in the NHS.
Definition
NICE Technology Appraisals (TAs) are evaluations of the benefits and costs of health technologies (medicines, devices, diagnostics) to determine whether they should be used in the NHS in England. The process involves a manufacturer submission, independent Evidence Review Group (ERG) assessment, and a committee decision. NICE uses a cost-effectiveness threshold of £20,000–£30,000 per QALY.
