Structured Expert Elicitation
A formal process for quantifying expert opinion as probability distributions for use as model inputs.
Definition
Structured expert elicitation (SEE) provides a method for deriving probability distributions for model parameters when direct evidence is absent or sparse. Common methods include the Sheffield Elicitation Framework (SHELF) and the Classical Method. Expert estimates are aggregated to form prior distributions, which may be used directly in Bayesian models or to inform sensitivity analysis ranges.
